Journey to a place where you can follow the path of nature…

 ”Sibuya” (meaning we will return) is a 2400 hectare, Malraria-free, Big 4 Game Reserve and is the only game reserve in South Africa accessed exclusively by riverboat.

Guests arrive and park at reception in Kenton-on-Sea, just 130 kms from Port Elizabeth and 150 kms from East London, and the unique experience starts immediately with an 11km boat trip from the sea up the magnificent Kariega Estuary to the Reserve and “River Camp”.

River Camp, situated on the banks of the Kariega River, is rustic luxury in a tented camp that will leave you with memories of how simple and enjoyable life used to be before the distractions of our modern age.

All our tents, on raised wooden decks, accommodate two adults sharing either in king size or twin beds. Additional camp beds are available for young children sharing with parents. Mosquito netting to all doors and windows and en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold water ensure that a night at Sibuya River Camp is comfortable and safe.

The soft glow of lanterns, the water gently lapping on the boats and the sounds of the African night, will be the only distractions as you reminisce in the warm embrace of the evening fire, while our ever friendly camp staff prepare the finest African fireside fare.

This small intimate camp, with Professional Guides and only 4 tents, affords guests the opportunity to follow a personalised programme of activities.

Antelope abound, including the rare Bontebok and Oribi. Giraffe, Zebra and 4 of the Big 5 make this a truly memorable experience as one views game against the magnificent backdrop of pristine coastal forest and the sea a few kilometres away.

With close to 300 species Sibuya is a birders paradise. Sea, forest, veld and riverine species can all be seen in the course of a day, but the host of raptors and possible sightings of the elusive Nerina Trogan and rare Bard owl, will truly delight and reward the ardent enthusiast.

Sample Itinerary:

After checking in at reception, the experience begins with 40 min boat cruises to River Camp
Once settled into the tents, a picnic lunch is served on the deck overlooking the Kariega River.
After Lunch, enjoy a game drive, river cruise, canoe trip, bush walk or simply relax at the camp with a fishing line in the river.

On returning to camp, freshen up for sundowners before a sumptuous dinner.
Afterwards, take an evening game drive under the starlit sky.
Return to camp for a fireside nightcap, whilst listening to the serenading nightjars and hooting owls.

Next morning, after a full breakfast, depart for a morning game drive to the Look Out, high above the Kariega River. Departing Guests return by riverboat to reception in Kenton-on-Sea.
