To a piece of heaven in the Magaliesberg
Mountains where peace and quiet is paramount. As someone once said
" If you can't relax here then you need medical attention."
Mountain Sanctuary Park Nature
Reserve, is a private nature reserve set in the Magaliesberg Mountains
five hundred feet above the grootfontein valley. The position of the
reserve allows easy access for visitors living in the P.W.V area.
The reserve is approximately 120 km west ofJohannesburg and 90 km
west of Pretoria.
The reserve is ostensibly a hiking
reserve, visitors to the reserve have access to approximately 1000
hectares of the reserve, where one is not restricted to set out routes
but rather has the freedom to walk where one likes. Allowing for walks
of fifteen minutes up to eight hours.
There are lovely crystal clear
mountain pools and streams where all the water is mineral water both
drinkable and swimmable. Over the 25 years that the reserve has been
open to the public, it has built up the reputation for being peaceful
and quiet, this has been achieved through mountain sanctuary's no
nonsense rule that absolutely no radios may be played, anyone doing
so or creating excessive noise is asked to leave. Because of this
it has become a haven for hikers, bird watchers, botanists, game viewers
and basically anyone wanting refuge from the rigors of urban stress.
Accommodation is available on the
reserve, ranging from log cabins to chalets and camp sites. The log
cabins are the latest addition to the reserve, they have the capacity
to sleep eight persons. Raised up on stilts as they are they afford
a magnificent view of the valley and lower reserve.
T hey are fully equipped and have everything that one could posibly
need , including built in fireplaces for those cozy winter nights you
must however bring your own companion.
