Meals at Fundu Lagoon are served in the main dining area at the jetty bar around the pool or in a traditional “kikapu” picnic basket. Beach braai's are a regular thing and Swahili cuisine and music provide a distinctly Pemban experience on the jetty. Private beach dining can also be arranged. Fundu’s cuisine reflects the culture of Zanzibar – a subtle fusion of Arabic, Indian, Swahili and Colonial influences overlay more familiar vegetable, fish and meat choices. A daily fisherman’s catch and unusual tropical fruits add an exotic twist to traditional international dishes. At Fundu Lagoon house drinks are included. ( All soft drinks, beers and a selection of house spirits, wines and cocktails.) Additional premium drinks are also available. The Jetty Bar. One third of the way out to sea on our super long jetty, this is a favorite for the comfy lounge seating and the ocean beneath your feet. The pool Bar. Raised on the hillside alongside our new infinity pool, the views are spectacular. Snacks and drinks are served during pool hours. The Main bar. The social hub of the hotel. This is a favorite place for pre and post dinner drinks. For the ultimate in relaxation, we suggest a visit to Fundu Lagoon’s Spa for massage and beauty treatments. Within the resorts main building there is a games room with a pool table, darts, TV, board games and a library of movies and books. The snug satellite TV room is tucked away in the heart of the hotel. There is a games balcony with both pool and darts and guests who need to stay in touch are able to use their roaming mobile phones.
The rarely dived waters around Pemba are among the richest and most exciting in the world. Walls of pristine coral stretching for mile upon mile are home to a vast range of marine life and provide some of the most exhilarating drift diving in East Africa. Pemba is one of the top dive sites in the world and our isolated location is a best-kept secret. The resort has a fully equipped dive centre offering a fleet of boats and the marine life is exciting even when snorkeling. Our thirty foot catamaran “Solkattan” is exclusively available for charter by our guests at Fundu Lagoon. Day charters allow you to discover the secluded beaches of Pemba in style. Stop off to snorkel the un-spoilt reefs and drop-offs where you might see turtles grazing and a vivid array for small reef fish. Try fishing for tuna or kingfish to add to the succulent seafood barbeque lunch. Learn to sail with our qualified skipper and crew – or just relax on deck and keep an eye out for spinner dolphins or humpback whales.
Mangrove Canoe Trips The nearby mangroves are also easy to explore by canoe. Sunset cruises by dhow are a romantic way to take in the surrounding beaches and islands. Historic RuinsSail or motor to the ancient capital of Pemba, Jambangome, now reduced to mysterious and beautiful ruins overgrown with tree roots.
Local fishing trips. An early morning fishing trip in a small dhow with local fisherman. On Misali Island you can snorkel or take a guided nature walk along one of the most stunning beaches in the Pemba Channel Conservation Area. In Ngezi Forest you can take a guided trip to the natural rain forest in the north of Pemba with abundant birdlife and picnic lunch on the beach.
