The Bazaruto Marine National Park is a protected area and is a scuba diver's paradise. Clear waters and a range of dazzling soft coral ridges and reefs to explore bekon you. An array of exciting dives can be experienced here with reef fish such as snapper and surgeon, as well as potato bass, kingfish, barracuda, manta rays and reef sharks to be seen.

Dolphin are daily encountered whilst humpback whales can be sighted between August and October and whale sharks between April and July. Leatherback, loggerhead and green turtles are often seen in the water, coming ashore to lay their eggs on Bazaruto's sandy beaches. You may also be lucky enough to see a rare dugong - part of the largest viable breeding population in the western Indian Ocean.

Ffishermen are increasingly attracted to the Bazaruto Archipelago to try their hand at luring legendary species such as Giant Black Marlin, Sailfish or Wahoo.

Extending six miles out to sea, the Bazaruto Archipelago has been a National Park since 1971. Most fish species occur inside the reserve boundaries and a strong marine conservation policy of tag and release is ensuring the sustainable use of the resource. The Archipelago is known as Africa's most productive area for Black, Blue and Striped Marlin and has produced Black Marlin in excess of 1000 pounds.

Mozambique Boat Trips
On boat trips offshore, you may be privileged to view dolphins and marine turtles, as well as whales and whale sharks at certain times of year. If you are very lucky you may view the rare dugong (sea cow), an endangered sea mammal that sparked early seafarers' tales of mermaids. Boat trips to the nearby and deserted Paradise Island (Santa Carolina) for picnics and snorkeling can be arranged.

Mozambique Snorkeling
Indigo Bay guests wishing to marvel at the marine life without having to put a tank on their back can go snorkeling amongst stunning tropical reefs featuring a diversity of exotic marine life. All equipment is provided and guests can choose between guided or unguided snorkeling.

Mozambique Bird Watching
On land Bazaruto plays host to more than 180 species of birds, a vast range of Palaearctic migrants, 26 species of waders and huge flocks of pelicans and flamingoes in and around the coastal lakes and tidal pools. Bird lovers will revel in the splendour and diversity of our diverse bird life.

Mozambique Water Sports
Indigo Bay is stocked with a full range of water sport equipment. Guests looking for action can water-ski in the calm waters off the central beach or opt for fun variants thereof (such as wake-snakes, wake-boards, knee-boards and doughnuts). A range of non-motorised water sports, such as kayaking, windsurfing and Hobiecat sailing, is also on offer and we ensure that our equipment is up-to-date and well-maintained.

Mozambique Dune Boarding
One of Bazaruto Island's features is its spectacular high sand dunes, which makes for exhilarating dune boarding for the entire family. Our boards require very little skill to master and can be easily handled by children as well as adults. Whizzing down a sand dune with the azure Indian Ocean around you, is one of our more thrilling experiences.

Mozambique Island Drives
For guests who are interested in local flora, fauna and culture, we offer informative drives in our 4x4 vehicle around Bazaruto Island. We will tailor-make your drive to suit your interests, which may include a visit to a local village, excursion to a 19th century lighthouse, bird-watching around unspoilt inland lakes, a trip to Sailfish Bay on the pristine eastern shore, or spectacular sunset drinks on the high central dunes.

Mozambique Horse Rides
Our hardy and carefully selected Boerperds cater for novices and advanced riders alike. Set out in the early morning or late afternoon to explore the forests and dunes on the island, or select a breathtaking beach ride where you can canter along beautiful white sandy shores and even swim in the waves if you choose. Our Stable Manager will conduct basic riding lessons for guests looking for instruction. Full chaps and riding hats are available on site.
