Before the turn of the century, the lure of gold brought men from all corners of the world to Southern Africa. Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, author of the animal classic, Jock of the bushveld was one of these. They passed through some of Africa’s most scenic untamed wilderness. It is in this area that Jock Safari Lodge is based with our southern boundary being the old wagon route from Delgoa Bay into the gold fields of the interior. Today the wilderness experience we offer is unchanged from these early times. It is in an area noted for its diversity in game, particularly the BIG FIVE. The lodge is easily accessible by road, just over 5 hours drive from Johannesburg, or 1 hour either Skukuza or Malelane airports.
Jock Safari Lodge incorporates the romance and elegance of the past colonial era, and reflects in its unique style the indigenous Zulu and Swazi cultures.
This luxurious lodge is situated in the southern area of the KNP at the confluence of the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers, half way between Skukuza and Malelane airports. It is approximately 35 km to both airports with only 3km of dirt road.
Magnificent trees and an abundance of bird life surround the Lodge. From here our two track roads take you into 6000 ha of exclusive traversing in the first private concession set in over 2 million hectares of KNP. . Friendly and professional staff will cater for all guests’ requirements from specialised game drives or game walks - with every sound, scent, footprint or broken blade of grass – as sign waiting to be interpreted and understood.

Each suite has a private “Sala” (outdoor lounge) that overlooks the river. The romantic bathrooms and outdoor showers share the same river view and sightings of animals, including the BIG FIVE can be seen from the comfort & privacy of your own room. Each suite has a King size bed surrounded by walk-in mosquito netting, a small lounge and twin basin bathroom.
Your private terrace has its own plunge pool and a wooden walkway to a lapa overlooking the riverbed.
Little Jock is a stand alone lodge situated just a kilometre from the main Jock Safari Lodge. With only 3 suites, Little Jock ensures that personal service is always a priority for the lodge’s friendly staff. Each of the 3 luxurious suites are equipped with their own public areas and amenities, including both indoor and outdoor showers. While the dining and entertainment area offer both alfresco and indoor dining facilities allowing guests the unique opportunity to experience the gracious style of old world elegance surrounded by unspoilt wilderness.
Little Jock’s suites boast beautiful views into the unspoilt Kruger bushveld and guests can also relax in the comforts of the central lounge overlooking the banks of the Biyamiti River. This new lodge can either be booked as a whole lodge with its own personal chef & game ranger or as individual suites.
Pilgrim’s Rest, named after the quaint historical mining town featured so prominently in “Jock of the Bushveld” and still in existence today, was a place to rest, rejuvenate and restock. So too is the Spa, destined to become a jewel in the Mantis Spa Collection.
Overlooking the haven of a serenity garden, it is fully equipped with therapy and relaxation rooms, hydrotherapy bath, steam room and sauna. Therapies are also available in the relaxed atmosphere of one’s own room. At “Pilgrim’s Rest” the need for both physical and psychological well-being is understood. Each treatment has been developed to revive, rejuvenate and restore the skin together with rebalancing mind, body and spirit. Highly qualified therapists will design a treatment programme to ensure deep relaxation and induce inner and outer harmony.
The Spa offers a variety of treatments. Sensuous Indonesian Spa Rituals that exfoliate, pamper and polish the skin are inspired by regal preparations in JAVA and combine natural herb exfoliations, aromatic essences and special massage techniques to calm and soothe body and mind.

Game drives in open land rovers, with our professional team of game rangers, offer guests the thrill of close encounters with Africa’s BIG FIVE.
Join guided Walking safaris or Birding safaris and interpret the signs, sounds and scents of wild animals in this unspoilt wilderness. Guided Historical tours will take you along the paths of legend and mystery of Africa ancient and contemporary. Rock art and Star gazing is a must see.
During the very hot summer when the wildlife finds shelter under shady trees, there are the options of air - conditioners & pools at Jock Safari Lodge for our guests.
Jock is located in a malaria area, but incidents are very low. Guests are advised to take precaution though.
