Nestled on the slopes of the Sabie River Valley, deep in the Lowveld
forest, Tanamera offers luxurious accommodation and breathtaking scenery.
On the R536 between Sabie and Hazyview. About 20 mins from the Kruger
National Park
The main lodge comprises the reception, dining area, lounge and bar.
Through wooden sliding doors that frame a picture view, you look onto
the deck with loungers and a rimflow pool. The views are spectacular
and must be seen to be believed.
Meals are served in the dining area, when the weather is kind, we
set tables outside on the deck, and you can enjoy your meal under
the stars to the accompaniment of the sounds of the resident bushbabies
and Wood owls. During winter, we stoke up the fireplace and serve
wonderful meals indoors.

Tanamera offers four magnificent fully serviced, thatched chalets,
each sleeping two people. The chalets, surrounded by forest and indigenous
bush, are en-suite with a conversation piece shower, and stone bath
overlooking the valley.
Each chalet has a stunning fireplace, mini-bar and private deck
with breathtaking views of the cascading Sabie River below. We are
happy to serve your morning and/or evening meals on your deck if your
preference is to dine privately. Due to the nature of the chalets,
children 16+ are welcome

such as Narina Trogons, Knysna Louries and if you are fortunate, the
Pel’s Fishing Owl. For the less active simply sit on your private

Activities
Walks
Due to the richness and diversity of the riverine and forest habitat,
walks are a favourite with our guests, and our particular speciality.
An early morning birding walk, with a maximum of eight people, is
taken by a FGASA/DEAT guide. This walk is aimed mainly at birders,
of all levels, but an inexperienced guest will find it just as interesting
and rewarding, especially if some of the more rare species are spotted.
Guided afternoon walks are also a favourite, and these take place
deep in the riverine forest. This walk is a general nature walk focussing
on the habitat and smaller species of interest, as well as looking
out for those elusive avians.
Lapa
The lapa has a central fireplace where guests can dine under the African
sky, or simply sit and enjoy a drink around the fire accompanied by
fellow guests and your hosts. This is an enclosed area and is perfect
for small wedding ceremonies, receptions and special occasions.
Drives
With the Kruger National Park only 20 minutes away, you can search
for the Big Five in an open vehicle accompanied by a FGASA/DEAT guide.
Other available trips are Lowveld Panoramic Tours, and trips to interesting
destinations, in air-conditioned microbusses. We will undertake transfers
for your convenience.
The Lowveld offers a host of activities, and we will gladly advise
and arrange these for you. Whatever your fancy, from quad-biking,
river-rafting, game drives, 4x4 trails, walks and hot-air ballooning,
to quietly sipping a drink basking in the peace of the forest, we
are there to indulge you
General Information
The Mpumulanga Lowveld enjoys hot summers and mild winters, being
pleasant to visit all year round
In summers the birds are spectacular, as all are in breeding plumage,
and exciting migrants abound. In winter the residents such as most
of the shrikes and owls are still to be seen, and the walks are cooler.
This is the perfect season for game viewing on walks and in the Kruger
National Park.
Whatever the season, please bring binoculars, personal toiletries,
a hat, sunscreen and cool clothes for the warm to hot days. Winter
evenings can be quite chilly, so some warm clothes are a good idea.
A windbreaker is advised as the area has a summer rainfall. Please
bring good walking shoes for the trails
Laundry services are provided if required
We have a library stocked with field guides, natural South African
history books and other interesting reading. Recent magazines are
provided in the rooms
Photographic opportunities abound, so bring your camera, lenses, film
and batteries. These can be bought in Hazyview as well.
There are safes in every room for your cash/valuables. We have credit
card facilities, but it is a good idea to carry a little cash.
Tanamera is considered malaria-free area, but portions of the Kruger
National Park are not. It is advisable to contact your doctor as to
whether you need medication or not. Insect repellent spray will be
provided in all rooms
