- Montana Mountain Retreat -Magaliesberg Accommodation - North West Accommodation-
Montana is approx 1000 acres of the peaceful Magaliesberg mountain "nature
reserve". The "highest and most southerly" unspoiled point, with amazing rock "chert" formations. 1 ½ hours from Pta/Jhb and about 1 hour from sun city.
We have lovely long walks or "scrambles" into the mountain, beautiful gorge with rock, flower and water features. The top of our property is the famous "beacon 131"
@ elevation 1 783 m. (about 2 hrs good hard walk from our comfortable cottages with a wide variety of birds, indigenous wildlife and insects) from there, you can see from the outskirts of Rustenburg to Krugersdorp.
Many parts of our property overlook the Buffelspoort recreation dam which is about 6 km away. There is a small rustic footpath to our pretty farm dams, where you can "chill out" or continue about 3 km up the mountain.
Montana Montain Retreat have 8 semi-luxury cottages, scattered around to afford privacy. Some are thatched, some overlook the mountain, others are surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Ceiling/standing fans are supplied in summer, heaters & extra blankets in winter. Bedding is fitted sheets and duvets. Mosquito units are supplied. All cottages are wall to wall carpeted and fully furnished, with lounge, either separate or open plan, stoep with furniture and braai area with 10kg wood supplied. Each Cottage has the following amenities:
Kitchen: equipped with; microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, stove, all cooking/eating utensils, dishwashing liquid, swabs dishcloths & condiments.
Bathroom: full bathrooms are equipped with: towels, toilet paper, soap, bath/shower gel, shampoo, body lotion & air freshener. Some have bath only, others bath & shower.
Security: we have two electronic security gates and full backup security services.(please note our gate times)
Black Sunbird Cottage above is a thatched, open plan two sleeper. Single beds next to each other. Bath, lovely view of garden & mountain in background. Braai. Ideal for a couple or friends.
Hoopoe Cottage above is a thatched, open plan three sleeper with cot. Single beds next to each other, third bed separate. Bath, pretty garden view. Braai. Ideal for 3 adults & a baby or 2 adults & 1 child.
Barbet Cottage above is a thatched, separate bedroom, three sleeper. Double bed in bedroom, single next door. Bath, pretty garden view. Braai. Ideal for either:- 3 adults or 2 adults & 1 child.
Oriole Cottage above is two bedroom four/five sleeper. Double bed in one room, double & single in other room. En suite bathroom. Bath & shower. Stunning mountain views. Braai. Ideal for a family or two couples.
Paradise Flycatcher Cottage above is exactly as oriole above, with different color schemes in bedrooms. Braai.
Bee-Eater Cottage above is a one bedroom, two/three sleeper. Double bed in bedroom, single bed in niche in wall in lounge. (Does not detract from lounge area). En suite bathroom. Bath & shower. Very private with stunning views of the mountain. Braai. Ideal for a honeymoon or that special getaway.
Kingfisher Cottage above is exactly as bee-eater above, with different color schemes and is the highest cottage with stunning mountain & river views. Braai.
Black Eagle above is a spacious two bedroom six sleeper. Double & single bed in each room. Bath & shower. Garden view. Ideal for family or friends. Braai

During the week: R175/person/night is charged for all cottages.
Children 4 & 12 are half price. One-night bookings are subject to a surcharge. 50% deposit is required on booking - balance is payable on arrival, cheque or cash. No credit card facilities.
Check in time: 10.00hrs unless cottages need servicing.
Check out time: 16.00hrs - summer, and 15.00hrs - winter. Please advise us ½ hr before you vacate the cottage.
Bring: food/drink, toiletries – (other than those supplied), bird book, good walking shoes, binoculars, swimming costumes/swimming towels, sunscreen & a torch. Free-range eggs are for sale. Due to the electrical and other equipment in the cottages, a deposit of R100 is required on arrival, which is refundable on departure. Sorry, it's the few who spoil it for the many!

How to get here
From the 4-way stop at the exit of the "Hartbeespoort dam" tunnel
or from the r512 from Randburg, take the / r104/ r512 / r27 / n4.
Do not turn off this road at all, continue on /r104 for 40 km. Passing signs sun city > bapung > Elandskraal > mooi nooi > over, down the hill, past the shops and caltex garage, to the end.
Turn left at < maanhaarrand sign. – approx. A further 10 km, there’s a 2nd sign to <maanhaarrand & /<montana guest farm.
Turn left onto [t5] "sand road". - after 500 m. Turn left in front of (kromrivierwinkel) shop, to left, (large blue omo sign), - (also signs to petersfield - mountain sanctuary park – utopia ) & montana.
Approx. 1 km further past petersfield nursery. Drive up our road,
of to r.h.s. --- approx. 3, 5 km to our security gates.
