Makalali Private Game Lodge is one of a kind. From its rugged thatched accommodation incorporating earthy walls, to its indiginous african ornaments and luxury appointments, Makalali Private Game Lodge offers a unique experience.
Situated on 22 000 hectares of conservancy, Makalali Private Game Lodge is one of the best private game lodges in the world consisting of Four exclusive camps including six spacious suites adjacent to a stilted Sala set amongst Jackalberry trees. These are equipped with all the modern conveniences you could hope for.
Facilities
at each camp include a uniquely designed swimming pool, boma, airconditioning, and an enclosed dining and lounge area.
Each camp at Makalali Private Game Lodge has six luxurious suites with an en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower, fireplace and a raised private viewing deck/lounge. The rooms are uniquely designed in African theme styles with metalwork lampshades and taps with ceramic basins. Each suite has mosquito nets surrounding the king-size beds. Insect repellent, hairdryers and bathrobes are provided.
At Makalali Private Game Lodge, we provide a variety of dining experiences. Gaze at the african skies while you enjoy dinner in the bush or savour your food with our other options which include the indoor-outdoor dining area where you can enjoy a plated dinner or the more casual family style dining with other guests. We also offer a private ‘Sala’ Dinner for the Romantic.
Dietary Requirements
Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements, be it vegetarian food, a low salt diet. At Makalali Private Game Lodge we would like to accommodate you in any way possible.
Drinking Water
At Makalali Private Game Lodge we provide complimentary bottles of mineral water in your rooms and water may also be purchased at your camp bar. Tap water at Makalali Private Game Lodge is drinkable, but due to a fluctuation in underground supplies we cannot always guarantee a consistent quality. It is therefore our suggested that tap water is utilized for cleaning purposes only.
Food Packs
Makalali Private Game Lodge offer packed meals upon request, due to the changing of travel arrangements and the possibility of missing a meal. This service may also be provided, in the event of you having to depart the lodge early.
Room service
Guests at Makalali Private Game Lodge usually prefer dining together in the communal dining area, however private drinks and meals e.g., in your sala can be arranged on request.
Banqueting Functions and Events
Makalali Private Game Lodge has been voted as one of the "Top ten eating establishments in SA". We can provide an array of dining experiences for any function or event held in a dining option of your choice. From our entertainment centre, legendary "boma" or under the African stars in the bush.
At Makalali Private Game Lodge our guest entertainment area or Conference Centre is situated within close proximity of all our camps and consists of a thatched conference area, outside veranda, bandstand, public toilet and kitchen. Our entertainment area has been designed so as to accommodate conferences, groups dining together, weddings, gala events, etc.
Makalali would also be more than happy to assist in the planing and implimentation of Team building activities for delegates during the course of the conference. Cconference equipment such as slide projectors with remotes, portable screens, overhead projectors, white boards, flipcharts, A T.V set and a VCR. Any other required equipment can be arranged.
Makalali also provides you with Welcome drinks at check in, refreshments and snacks served during your conference, tea and coffee on hand at all times.
Game Drives at Makalali Private Game Lodge are in open Landrovers and are conducted twice daily. Makalali Private Game Lodge offers birding safaris, walking safaris, stargazing sessions and team building activities. Makalali Private Game Lodge can also arrange tribal Dancing/Drumming. These are performed by local dancers, at an additional cost.
Makalali Private Game Lodge boasts four of the ‘Big Five’as well as cheetah, giraffe, zebra, kudu.
Golfing Excursion
The Han Merensky is a must for all the golfing enthusiats. Hans Merensky is situated next to the world famous Kruger National Park and having regular mammal and bird sightings whilst slaving away on the golf course. This all is possible as an added adventure during your Makalali experience.
Cheetah Breeding Project
Makalali Private Game Lodge arranges visits to a facility, which specializes in the captive breeding of especially cheetahs.
Essential research is also being conducted on other endangered species.
Rafting/ Abseiling
Because of Makalali Private Game Lodge's perfect location, which is very close to the mighty Olifants River in South Africa’s Limpopo Province, it is possible to go river rafting and abseiling. A Professional River Rafting Company capitalizes the last 12 km of the Olifants Gorge. Two man Croc rafts will aid you in conquering the many rapids, varying from grade 2-4, with various cascades, chutes and quiet pools in between, providing a lot of variety. It should be noted that this is a lot of fun for young and old alike and families are also welcome.
Cultural Experience
Makalali Private Game Lodge invites you to come and experience the intriguing Shangaan culture at a tribal museum. Day to day tasks and activities are performed, just as their native ancestors did.
Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre
Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre is yet another interesting facility to visit is the for a hands on experience with African wildlife being rehabilitated for return to the wild.
Panorama/ Escarpment Day trip
Enjoy the history that lies embedded in and around it’s borders and the greater lowveld area and Drakensberg escarpment. A full day trip will allow you to visit the following interesting places. The trip starts with a climb onto and through the rugged yet picturesque plateau of the Drakensberg mountains and then descending down into the Lowveld plains.
Interesting places along your way, include the Blyde River Canyon (gigantic gorge more than 20 km long, cut out of the escarpment), Bourke’s Luck Potholes (deep cylindrical cavities formed by the swirling action of flood waters), Pilgrims Rest (exact replica of a 19th century mining town and Graskop (a forestry village perched on a spur of the escarpment). It is a good suggestion to take a camera as an array of photo opportunities will present themselves during your excursion and to those for whom shopping is a way of life, there are numerous shops scattered along the way, where local arts and crafts can be viewed and acquired
