By contrast TANGALA aims to offer guests a much more 'up close and personal' intimate bush experience - perfect for the visitor who wants to get more out of their African experience than simply ticking off the Big Five. We welcome disabled people.

Tangala has striking views of the Drakensberg Mountains and is close (20min) to the Orpen Gate of the world famous Kruger National Park. Tangala was rated as a 3 Star Graded Game Lodge and was a Semi-Finalist in the AA Travel Guides Accommodation Awards in the Game Lodge category.

Early explorers created a legacy of adventure and discoveries, relive the romance of old at Tangala in the comfort and security of our Safari Camp. We pride ourselves in personalized, owner-managed service. Authentic Simplicity Accommodation at the camp will bring back memories of a bygone era of the "Colonial Africa" long forgotten. At Tangala we have created the feel of Africa long forgotten and our team strives to give all guests the ultimate African bush experience.


Our camp consists of a central dining and lounge area with full bar and a swimming pool with a deck.


We are proud to announce that Tangala is one of only a few electricity free camps in South Africa; kerosene lamps/lantern lighting being provided Cooking is performed on either gas or open fire.


The five twin bedded thatched chalets have been interior designed to provide the ultimate in rustic luxury. All chalets have en suite facilities and its own private viewing patio.

Our cuisine has been specially created to reflect Africa in all her moods. Meals are social occasions and a time to listen and share fascinating tales of the bush or to sit back and reflect on the day passed. Meals include a full breakfast/brunch, high tea, snacks and boma dinner.
Wine connoisseurs from the Cape have designed our comprehensive wine list, and all dietary and culinary requirements are met at Tangala.

Hear the lions roar while you enjoy sundowners as the sun slips behind the Blue Mountains in the west. Game viewing at Tangala is of high standard and compare with the best in the world. Guests can expect to see lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and other general game on game drives. As well as exciting bird watching.
 

Wildlife activities here enable guests to 'touch, taste and smell' Africa. Guests not only get close to Big Game but also learn to identify birds and trees, taste edible fruit, follow in the footsteps of animal's great and small and learn about local bush lore.

Our staff includes well-trained and experienced rangers who will share with you one of Africa's most splendid ecosystems. Two game drives in open vehicles include coffee, tea and snacks in the morning while a romantic sundowner interrupts the night drives.

The night game viewing is an experience of its own. Nocturnal sightings might include bush babies, the elusive genet, or predators hunting and stalking their prey.


Lanterns welcome you back and guide you along the pathways to the bush boma for an African feast under the southern stars.

Dress code is bushveld casual (neutral coloured clothing) and lightweight, but a sweater/jacket may be required. During the winter, June, July and August warm clothes are necessary especially early morning and on game drives. Although our camp is created to protect our guests from malaria, it is strongly recommended that they take their appropriate preventative measures.
