Malherbe guesthouse is perfectly located in Montagu, a historical village ideally situated on the legendary Route 62, winding through the Breede River Valley, halfway between Cape Town and Oudtshoorn, and above the Garden Route.

Malherbe guesthouse is a National Monument and was built in 1859. Owners Joop and Micky warmly welcome guests to their Cape Dutch style guesthouse in Montagu, South Africa.
 
 

The house has been lovingly restored and offers 6 en-suite rooms.

The beds are made with crisp linen and in the bathrooms you’ll find fluffy towels and a selection of quality personal care items.

Facilities in all rooms include:

Tea and coffee making facilities, Hairdryer,
A fan for those sunny summer days and a heater for the chilly winter nights.
Garden rooms have a private entrance and patio or terrace.
These rooms have TV (Mnet).

Deluxe garden rooms also have extra lengths twin beds (which convert into a king-seize bed), bar fridge, fireplace and electronic safe.

 
 

In the morning a full breakfast is served, either outside on the terrace under the vines of indoors in the cosy breakfast room. Breakfast is a feast with a variety of fresh fruits, yoghurt, homemade bread, freshly squeezed orange-juice, cold meats and cheeses, eggs prepared on order.

 
 

Enjoy the atmosphere of CAPE DUTCH living. The guest lounge overlooks the secluded garden with beautiful views of the Langeberg Mountains.

 

Enjoy a dip in our swimming pool in the garden. There are secluded and shady corners where you can relax, read a book or sample the Montagu wine. For those wishing to bask in the Montagu sunshine, this part of the Western Cap is renowned for its fabulous climate.

Info on Montagu

Centrally situated between Cape Town and Oudtshoorn, the quaint little village of Montagu nestles in the western corner of Kannaland. A unique rural atmosphere distinguishes Montagu as one of the best-preserved late Victorian agricultural villages in the Cape.

Montagu also is the heart of Route 62: the traveller's route, which meanders between Cape Town, Oudtshoorn, the Garden Route and Port Elizabeth, offering a scenic alternative to the N2 highway.

Route 62 includes the wine cellars and estates of the Paarl, Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson and Klein Karoo Wine Routes, making this the longest wine route in the world!

Things to do Museums

Joubert House : Long Street. The town's oldest local dwelling, it epitomises the lifestyle of the late 19th century and includes an indigenous medicinal herb garden.

Old Mission church: The old neo-gothic Mission Church dates back to 1907 and displays a collection of valuable furniture, paintings and objects d'art from Montagu. Herbal remedies and herbal products are also on sale here.

Hot Mineral Springs: Montagu's springs' healing powers have enjoyed renown for over 200 years. The water is pumped continuously from the eye of the spring.
