I discovered the lodge nestled
between spectacular mountain scenery and the shores of the wild
Atlantic, some thirty kilometres from Cape Town city.
On arrival at Wild Rose Country Lodge, I was greeted by my charming
host and a glass of sherry. After a brief check-in, I was escorted
via tastefully appointed halls and passages to my room. I paused
a moment to enjoy the view through the dining area.
Beyond the unspoiled wetlands,
five kilometres of crisp white beach stretched, lazily beckoning
me closer. My suite was one of several, each tastefully and individually
decorated. Each with glorious sea or mountain views.
Mine was the African Room - elegant yet comfortable with a slightly
colonial air. The attention to detail was impeccable.
I continued to admire the scenery from the pleasant position of
a foam bath.
Once refreshed I made my way to the intimate bar for a sundowner
or two as the glowing orb slipped quietly into the sea.
Later I drew closer to the
log fire in the lounge and relaxed while my host made arrangements
for dinner at a fabulous seafood restaurant which overlooked the
Indian Ocean.
Up early I started the day
with a full breakfast served in the sunny herb-filled courtyard.
I then had the fun task of deciding how to spend my time; a gallop
on the beach, take in a wine farm or two, or a round of golf perhaps?
Once again my host, eager to please, organised everything possible.
