GAME DRIVES
On a game drive, you can expect to see more of the larger animal life
as you are covering more ground in a vehicle. Drives are conducted into
various sections of Zambezi National Park, including the Chamabondo
and River Drive areas. Four-hour drives are on offer in the morning
and afternoon in addition to the longer full-day game drive. Night drives
are also conducted on a private unfenced game ranch, not far from the
National Park, and animals that may be seen include civet, large-spotted
genet, several (?) and, if you are lucky, leopard! Ask the Tours Desk
for more details.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What do I need to take along, are there mosquitoes, will I get malaria?
· Essentials for a game drive include a good pair of binoculars
(7x50 or 10x50), a bird/tree/mammal checklist (supplied by the Lodge),
a large-brimmed hat (especially in summer - no baseball caps) and sunscreen
lotion. Cameras and hand-held video recorders are also good idea! No
one goes thirsty as a large cooler box of mixed cool drinks, mineral
water and beer is supplied. Breakfast or lunch is also supplied, depending
upon the length of the game drive.
· Please be reassured that most insects of the harmful kind are
usually only active in the wetter months. Malaria becomes a higher risk
during April and May, but it is advisable to take the necessary prophylactics
before you come to Zimbabwe, regardless of the season, just to be on
the safe side.
