The Garden Route, undoubtedly one of South Africa's highlights. A region of high mountains, lush forests, sundrenched beaches and quaint little towns that combine to create an explorer's dream. This tour visits all of the well-known attractions in the area, but also concentrates on the less familiar sights and activities, offering an exciting, package of action and adventure.

DAY 1Knysna

Knysna

Departing from Cape Town, we follow the rugged coastline through the numerous fishing villages en-route to the southern most tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas. After lunch, we continue through the rolling farmland of the Swellendam region, and across the Malgas pont into the true Garden Route area. Our home for the next four nights is the KNYSNA INN near Knysna, where accommodation is in log cabins hidden deep in the forest. We enjoy a hearty meal this evening.

DAY 2 - 4Garden Route

Cape Town

These days are for thoroughly exploring the area and dependent upon the weather we will follow the "Old Passes Road" through Plettenberg Bay and Nature's Valley, deep into thickly forested ravines and high on to breathtaking lookouts, ending at the Tsitsikamma National Park where we will hike part of the acclaimed "Otter Trail". On the return journey, the really adventurous may try the world's highest bungi jump at 216m (own expense).

Our exploring will also take us along Prince Alfred's Pass, over the mighty Outeniqua Mountains and into the dry Karoo where we visit the renowned Cango Cave complex, and an Ostrich Farm at Oudtshoorn We will enjoy a boat trip on the Knysna lagoon, and have time to soak up the sun on a sandy beach or simply stroll around the old woodcutters' town, with its many homecraft shops, markets and vibrant waterfront. We will also enjoy extensive guided walks in the indigenous forests.

DAY 5Cape Town

This morning, we begin our journey at the Knysna Waterfront where we board the Outeniqua Choo Choo, a restored steam train that follows the scenic southern Cape coastline, and the shores of the Lake District to George. Here we are reunited with our vehicle for the scenic journey across the Hottentots Holland Mountains and back to the "Mother City", Cape Town. We arrive back at the DRIFTERS CAPE TOWN INN at approx. 18h00.
