This comprehensive itinerary includes visits to the mysterious Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the famous Victoria Falls, Hwange and Matobos National Parks. Other highlights of the safari include the sightings of large game (elephant and buffalo) on the banks of the Zambezi River. Zimbabwe lies between the Limpopo and the mighty Zambezi Rivers, in a natural parkland of 390 245 km². Trees and flowers flourish vast numbers and wildlife abounds in the National Parks. In this land of contrast and diversity the visitor will find, side by side, the old and the new, but what never changes are the friendly faces of the people of Zimbabwe, who make the visitors feel welcome wherever they go.

Day 1: Johannesburg - Bubye River

We depart at 06h30 from the Randburg Towers, in Randburg, north of Johannesburg and travel via the great north road to Bubye in Zimbabwe. Elephant and Lion Hotel. (picnic lunch and dinner)

Day 2: Great Zimbabwe Ruins - Masvingo

We visit the mysterious ruins of Great Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe means "House of Stone". The stone structures are the largest ancient man-made buildings south of the Sahara. There are few places in Africa with a more impressive atmosphere. Great Zimbabwe Hotel or similar. (all meals)

DAY 3: Lake Kariba - (Fly in)

The second largest man-made lake in the world is 280 km long and 32 km wide at its maximum width and covers 5 000 km². The dam wall was built at the entrance of the gorge and called Kariba (little trap) by the local tribe. Caribbea Bay Hotel or similar. (all meals)

Day 4 / 5: Kiubo River Lodge, Zambia

The lodge is situated on the northern banks of the Zambezi River under a canopy of magnificent African Ebony and Tamarind Trees. Activities include game viewing and sunset cruises on the Zambezi River and canoeing. (all meals)

Day 6 / 7: Kulefu Game Lodge - Lower Zambezi National Park

The lodge is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River in the national Park. The area is remote: surrounded by a wildlife population of hippo, buffalo, waterbuck, lion, leopard, hyena, impala, zebra and numerous species of birds. We enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives in the Park (May to December). (all meals)

Day 8: Kiubo River Lodge, Zambia

After breakfast we travel through the Park to return to Kiubo River Lodge by vehicle or by boat. The scenery of open plains and forest with a mountain background is breathtaking. Kiubo Lodge offers superb views over the Zambezi. (all meals)

Day 9 /10: Victoria Falls / Livingstone "Mosi-oa-Tunya" - The Smoke that Thunders

The Victoria Falls is without doubt one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa, where the waters of the mighty Zambezi River tumble down in continuous thunder. Various optional excursions are available; a flight over the falls, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River or white water river rafting (August to December only). Days spent at leisure. Sprayview Hotel, Rainbow Hotel, lodge/ hotel in Livingstone or similar. (hotel bed & breakfast only)

Day 11 / 12: Hwange National Park

This great national park of 14 650 km², is one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. It is home to over 400 species of birds and 107 species of animals including buffalo, rhino, lion, antelope and vast herds of elephant. From observation platforms situated at the waterholes, we can watch an endless procession of game coming to drink and bathe. Lodge / chalet. ( all meals)

Day 13: Matobo National Park - Bulawayo

The wind sculptured granite hills, domed rock castles and bushman painted caves add to the unique atmosphere and beauty of the park. Cecil Rhodes, who is buried on a summit of these gigantic rock masses, regarded the Matobo as one of the world's most scenic points. Farmhouse Lodge or similar. (all meals)

Day 14: Bulawayo - Tshipise (Fly out)

The name Tshipise is a Venda word meaning "hot spring". The hot spring (65°C) flows into 3 separate swimming pools surrounded by fine natural parkland of acacia and baobab trees. (chalet with breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner)

Day 15: Johannesburg

Arrive 16h00 (breakfast and picnic lunch)

KARIBU GRADING : (3 TENT)

Accommodation: 14 nights hotels and lodges. Meals: Dinner, breakfast, lunch as per itinerary. The main meal is in the evening. Excludes lunches in Victoria Falls. Group Size: 6-16 participants. Transfers: Transfers are provided in Victoria Falls/ Livingstone.

Fly in / out option:

Option to join the safari on Day 3 at Kariba and end on Day 14 in Bulawayo to form a 12-day safari. This itinerary is flexible and will depend on the local conditions.
