Example: Kalahari and Namibia Tour (14 days) Day 1 Depart Upington (10am) from the airport. We make our
way South West to the Kalahari to our first overnight stop at Augrabies
Falls National Park. The park is famous for its scenic 60m falls and indigenous
game (giraffe, gemsbok and kudu etc). We set up camp and after cooling
off in the communal pool settle down to enjoy our first night under the
stars. Day 2 After clearing border control we head on to the Fish
River Canyon, second in size to the Grand Canyon. We set camp at Hobas
where you can enjoy superb sights of the canyon and relax with a cool
drink. Day 3 Departing Hobas we head west to the coastal town of Luderitz.
En route we pass the feral horses of the desert. Day 4 After breakfast in the hotel we will set off to Kolmanskop
a short drive from Ludertiz. The desert has reclaimed the entire town
of Kolmanskop and you can explore this fascinating 'Ghost Town'. The town
was originally set up by the Germans to exploit the vast diamond riches
that can be found in the surrounding desert. Return to Ludertiz.
Day 5 Heading north we make our way into the
Namibian dunes found within the Namib Naukluft Park where some of the
highest and oldest dunes in the world can be found. Sesriem Canyon is
our camp for the next two nights. We will spend the next two days exploring
the dunes and the surrounding pans in the Sossusvlei area. Day 6 Spent taking in the area and the natural
beauty which surrounds the dunes, for the more energetic the dunes can
be climbed. We have the opportunity to explore the Sesreim Canyon and
surrounding area. Day 7 We spend a leisurely morning packing
up and taking any last minute photographs before we begin our journey
back to South Africa. An old German fort built by baron Von Wolf in 1908,
which has now been restored to its former grandeur. We stop for the evening
at Duiwesb Fort. Day 8 Leaving Duiwesb Fort we had inland to
the Quiver tree forests and Giants playground near Keetmanshoop. Known
by this name as it does literally look as if Giants have spent time re-arranging
the boulders in the area. Our accommodation for this night is at a cheetah
conservation centre where cheetahs and other cats are cared for.
Day 9 We begin to make our way back to the
South African and Namibian borders continuing into the Kalahari Transfrontier
Park taking in the sights along the way. Camp is set in time for a swim
and an early evening game drive. Day 10 Early morning game drive. Return to camp
for a hearty breakfast before breaking camp and heading onto to Nossob
(remaining within the Kalahari Park). The area is well known for its lion
and raptor sightings. The game drive will be determined by reported game
sightings. Day 11 Leaving Nossob we head west traversing
some of the red sand dunes on the look out for game. We set camp at that
evening at Mata-Mata on the western border of the park. Day 12 After a morning game drive we head to
Upington (also known as the Gateway to the Green Kalahari) where we can
enjoy some of the local 'Fruits of the Vine' (January-March) from the
local wineries. We will set camp at Spitzkop Nature Reserve a private
reserve where you can relax by the pool or take a walk in the surrounding
area. Day 13 After dropping off our guests who choose
to depart from Upington (flying in option). Those who have chosen to drive
we make our way to Kuruman. Over-nighting at a private reserve, enjoying
our last under the open African Skies. Day 14 Return to Johannesburg where we say our
farewells. Tour
