Explore the vast
and mysterious splendour that is Ethiopia!
This ancient land is a revelation of breathtaking gorges, soaring
mountains and lakes full of life. With the discovery of ancient
fossil remains of our very distant ancestors Ethiopia is often
referred to as "The Cradle of Man". It is a land of
fairytale castle cities and untouched grasslands. Take in the
Great Rift Valley that spectacularly scars its surface, visible
even to astronauts far above the earth. Discover the Blue Nile
Falls and the source of the Blue Nile. Marvel at the Rift Valley
Lakes and the Simien Mountains. Prepare to be amazed by the castle
city of Gondar and Lalibela with its perfectly preserved rock-hewn
churches.
Ethiopia is an extravagant cocktail of natural, cultural and archaeological
wonders.

Week 1
Arrive in Addis Ababa where a city tour will give you the opportunity
to explore. Discover the magical people that live in Ethiopia,
and the feeling of spirituality and peace that they offer. We
continue to Debre Markos where you will be able to view the Blue
Nile Gorge. Arriving in Bahar Dar, a boat trip on Lake Tana will
take you to the great water system that gives the Blue Nile its
tremendous power, and view the magnificently preserved Island
Monasteries of the thirteenth century. Here we also visit the
Blue Nile Falls, an amazing 400 metres wide.
Our next stop is Gondar, the 17th Century capital of Ethiopia.
A walled city with castles that take us back in time to former
grandeur.
We continue on to the Simien Mountain National Park. Here we will
seek 3 endangered species found nowhere else in the world - the
Walia Ibex, the Simien Fox and the Gelada baboon.
Next a mule trek takes us to explore the remarkable churches described
as ‘the creation of angels’ in and around Lalibela.
A world heritage site with an incredible past.

Week 2
Making our way back to Addis Ababa we head south through the incredible
Rift Valley. Driving along a chain of lakes we see a vast parade
of bird life, including Pelicans, Flamingos and Fish Eagles.
We visit the Bale Mountain National Park, covering 400 square
kilometres and home to the shy and endangered Nyala, endemic to
Ethiopia. Walks in this panoramic landscape are a major trip highlight.
Excellent Simien Fox sightings in this park.
Journeying on to Wendo Genet we take in lush tropical forest that
host a vast array of birds as well as Colobus monkeys. The following
day begins with an early morning drive to Lake Awash, Lake Abiata
and Lake Langano, before arriving back in Addis Ababa.
Our tour ends with a sad farewell to the many mysteries and fascinating
discoveries of Ethiopia.
