Our incredible 3-week journey
of discovery starts at one of the 7 natural wonders of the world,
the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. At South Luangwa National Park
we'll seek out some of Africa's big cats on an unforgettable evening
game drive, before heading to Malawi known as the warm heart of
Africa. We’ll discover the fresh water jewel of Lake Malawi
where you can simply relax on the shores, explore rural fishing
villages or try your hand at a multitude of water sports.
Be enthralled by Africa's tribal
people and wildlife unchallenged in their diversity. Explore the
coastal reefs of exotic Zanzibar Island in the Indian Ocean, and
make your way through the Serengeti. Africa's spectacular Rift
Valley, with the wide-open plains of east Africa stretched before
you.
The ‘Northern Trails’ is an Adventurers delight!
Week
1
We start our adventure at Victoria Falls where you are free to
view the magnificent falls and sample an array of unrivalled exhilarating
adventure activities.
Heading north - east we make our way deeper into Zambia where
we visit the awesome South Luangwa National Park, notably one
of Africa's best-kept secrets. With over 9000 square kilometres
of pristine wilderness, South Luangwa is teeming with over 47
mammal species - herds of buffalo, elephant, zebra, hyena, jackal,
15 different antelope and the endemic Cookson's wildebeest and
Thornicroft's Giraffe. Adding to this line up are the bigger predators
- lion and leopard. The lifeblood of the valley is the winding
Luangwa River, crowded with hippos, crocodiles and wading waterfowl.
With over 400 bird species to spot, including 40 raptors, it's
an ornithological paradise. We will enjoy 2 included game drives
into the park.
Week
2
We travel onwards to tranquil Malawi. This friendly country is
home to the fresh water aquarium of Lake Malawi with over 350
endemic species of fish. There is ample time to relax dreamily
on its shores, visit the rural fishing villages or try a few of
the many water sports on offer. Making our way up the lake and
stopping at various camps we cross the border into Tanzania and
head for Dar-es-Salaam, coastal port and capital. Here we board
a ferry to Zanzibar.
The little Indian Ocean Island
of Zanzibar is a cultural melting pot of African, Arabic and Indian
cultures. It is renowned for its spice and (never to be forgotten)
slave trade. We have three full days in hotel accommodation to
explore this island with its turquoise waters and beautiful palm
fringed beaches.
Perhaps take an optional boat trip to snorkel with the dolphins
or catch a glimpse of the very rare Red Colubus monkey.
Week
3
En route to Arusha and we’ll see the highest mountain in
Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro and travel through the pastures of the
Maasai.
Arusha is the gateway into the Ngorongoro and Serengeti National
Parks – usually a trip highlight! Travelling in specialised
4x4 vehicles we view the magnificent game these parks have to
offer. The Serengeti National Park is world renowned for the great
wildebeest migrations and excellent big game sightings. We also
visit the Ngorongoro National Park, the largest unbroken caldera
in the world, it plays host to up to 25,000 larger mammals and
100 species of bird. We continue our trip to Nairobi where we
say our farewells.
This trip is also offered in
