"Observing not Disturbing"

We are the licensed permit holder for area 1 - Walker Bay - Hermanus. Our permit entitles our vessel to approach the whales up to 50m, we then stop and the decision is left entirely to the whales whether or not they wish to approach the boat - being curious creatures, they often do come right up to our vessel. It is definitely an experience to be treasured.

Details of our boat trips

Duration : approx. 1hr 30m - max. 3hrs (depends on where the whales are that trip)
Duration of trip is normally about 2hrs.

Departures : 7H00 - 9H00 - 12H00 - 15H00
The 7H00 (Breakfast trip) includes a breakfast upon your return.
Breakfast served from 9h00

What we usually encounter : Southern Right Whales, seals, penguins and marine birds. We are fortunate enough to encounter dolphins, Bryde's (our resident whale throughout the year - very friendly, unfortunately rather shy, and Humpback whales on certain of our trips.

Time of year: Approx -June/ July to early December, it all depends when the star performers arrive and depart.

Safety/protection : we have built a "private floating jetty" to enable our passengers to embark/disembark with ease.

Life jackets and life jackets are provided.
All necessary, approved safety equipment is on board
Plus a 50 man life-raft, for our passengers added safety.
No of passengers : registered to carry 42 passengers + 3 crew

Light refreshments are included, no extra charge: cold drinks, mineral water, chips, fruit,etc

A competent, registered skipper and whale guide specialist are in charge of the vessel.

Passengers added comfort

Passengers should bring the following ; hats, sunblock, cameras, binoculars, and jackets.
Seasick tablets should be taken in advance, if needed, as per instructions on packet.
One can also purchase bands that you wear on your wrists - it works on your pulse point,
we have had numerous passengers that say it definitely works.

Location

We are situated in the Hermanus New Harbour At "the Whale Shack", little blue hut, situated at the waters edge.
